About the Tony Elumelu program

In 2009, business magnate and philanthropist Tony O. Elumelu founded The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) with a mission to transform Africa through entrepreneurship. Tony Elumelu

That same year, TEF launched its signature entrepreneurship program in Nigeria, leading to over 1,000 businesses and generating an estimated $2 billion in sales for participating companies. 

Programs were expanded to include Cameroon, Ghana and Senegal between 2011 and 2013.

How long is it?

The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program is an 8-week programme where participants get a chance to learn about business, develop entrepreneurial skills and network with fellow entrepreneurs. 

The program will culminate in a Demo Day where participants will be able to showcase their ideas to investors and mentors.

The program runs from May 14 to July 16, 2023. It will consist of nine different modules including: 

  • Business and market overview 
  • Customer discovery and validation 
  • People development 
  • Operational planning for scale-up ventures 
  • Financial management for small businesses 
  • marketing for small businesses 
  • networking with investors and mentors 

On June 15, 2023, it will culminate in a public pitching event where participants will showcase their business ideas to an audience of top professionals.

What do they look for in applicants?

They look for individuals that have access to funding, solid entrepreneurial skills and a viable business idea. Applications are open to both university students and graduates. 

To be eligible for application, you must meet any of these criteria.

Be an African citizen between 18 – 35 years old; or, if you are above 35 years old, have at least five years’ work experience in your field; and/or if you are above 35 years old but below 45 years old with less than five years’ work experience in your field 

Have an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution; OR if you are above 45 years old with more than 10 years’ work experience in your field l
